I find it really great to have a repertoire of salads that I can throw together and have in the fridge for an easy lunch on a bed of greens or to take to a BBQ or shared dinner. I have been looking for a tasty brown rice salad and after a bit of research and much trial and error, I have come up with this scrumptious one. The dressing gives it a good ginger zing! ....

Tracey Bennett aka The Reckless Foodie is a plant-based wholefood chef who, together with her husband Jason Shon Bennett, runs wellness and fasting retreats. The retreats aim to reset attendees health and wellbeing, with three days of time-out out from normal life with like- minded others. They have at least nine planned for 2021, spanning the country. Tracey also teaches plant-based cooking classes in her home kitchen in west Auckland and does plant-based catering for special events and gatherings. Plus, she has a first cookbook imminent. Feel French and eat French food inside Michael Mina’s gorgeous, Parisian-designed Bardot Brasserie restaurant. Dishes here are rich and full-bodied, definitely for the adventurous eater. Start with escargot en croute perfectly cooked, covered in absinthe butter and enveloped in puff pastry; or opt for the popular prime steak tartare, USDA prime filet topped with egg yolk and sauce verte and served with potato chips.
Entrées include the French classic steak frites, and guests can choose from cuts like filet mignon, flat iron and a double-cut ribeye. Juicy and tender poulet roti (roasted chicken) is served with a mushroom bread pudding, and the loup de mer Basquaise (roasted sea bass) gets a spicy kick from a chorizo broth. Vegetarians can delight in the gnocchi Parisienne, perfectly cooked pasta dumplings blanketed in acorn squash, pomegranate and sage. A must-order side dish is the macaroni and mimolette grati ....

Dining with a group? Head straight to Zuma, where you’ll enjoy an energetic, “izakaya” style of dining (a Japanese izakaya is a bit like a pub with communal cuisine) that showcases cocktails, sushi and shareable items, albeit with a slightly upscale twist.
After you head up to the third level of The Cosmopolitan and get your table in the contemporary restaurant with huge windows stretching up, up, up, the first order of business is sure to be cocktails. Although Zuma has plenty of options, one of the most popular is the Burning History, where a barrel stave is lit on fire with a blowtorch, creating a fragrant smoke that is captured by an upended glass. That’s then filled with a combination of Suntory Toki whiskey, honey, yuzu, ginger and egg whites.
