Landlord Offers Sex-For-Rent to Poor, Sometimes Homeless Women, Lawsuit Alleges

In June, NBC 7 Investigates first reported on the civil complaint that was filed in San Diego Federal Court, accusing Nelson of 10 specific acts of unlawful sexual discrimination. Those acts included offering female tenants “tangible benefits” in exchange for sexual favors, touching tenants without their consent and retaliating against tenants who refused his sexual advances by evicting or threatening to evict them.
NBC 7 s Jackie Crea spoke to two former tenants who shared stories of similar experiences.
Now, after reviewing court records and conducting interviews, NBC 7 is hearing from tenants who describe a pattern of abuse.
“He was groping me and touching me,” said Nicole Mack, in an exclusive interview with NBC 7. Mack said she was staying at a downtown homeless shelter in March when she got a phone call from Nelson. “I just wanted to get into an apartment, I didn’t want to be in the shelter any longer.”  ....

Sentencing Law and Policy: "The Federal Sentencing Guidelines: Some Valedictory Reflections Twenty Years After Apprendi"

Apprendi
The title of this post is the title of this notable new paper authored by Frank O. Bowman III now available via SSRN. Here is its abstract:
In this contribution to the
North Carolina Law Review s symposium on the twentieth anniversary of the Supreme Court s decision in
Apprendi v. New Jersey, I offer a valedictory reflection on my own intellectual journey with sentencing reform and in particular with the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
The account begins with my first encounters with the Guidelines when I was a zealous Assistant U.S Attorney, continues through my transition to teacher, scholar, policy advocate, and occasional sentencing consultant, and foreshadows a conclusion with me in the role of disillusioned curmudgeon muttering about might-have-beens as I shuffle towards my dotage. ....

There is enough evidence in the cases before them or enough evidence in the public now, Powell said
Former prosecution attorney Sidney Powell claimed there is more than enough evdience in the public to more to reverse the election in at least five states.
Sidney Powell said:
“There’s all kind of precedent for fixing what happened in this election from Bush vs. Gore to other cases as well… Fractionalized votes.
That’s exactly what we have here from a computer algorithm that we can prove in multiple counties, and it could prove across the country if anybody would issue an order allowing inspection of the machines, Powell said. ....
