We're Slipping on Post-Vaccination Rules

A few weeks ago, my partially vaccinated partner and my wholly unvaccinated self got an invitation to a group dinner, held unmasked and indoors. There’d be Thai food for 10, we were promised, and two über-immunized hosts, more than two weeks out from their last Moderna doses.
And what about everyone else? I asked.
Would they be fully vaccinated, too?
Well, came the response.
Not really. Some would be, some wouldn’t. But it had been so long weren’t we close enough?
The answer was of course
no, and my partner and I ended up staying home. But as the weeks wear on, I’m having more and more of these conversations with people who are struggling to navigate the new social calculus of a partly vaccinated world. Even as infection rates tick up again, people are bending, stretching, and breaking the rules governing how they should act around others: A recent Gallup poll showed that Americ ....

What is (and isn't) safe after you've gotten a coronavirus vaccine

What is (and isn t) safe after you ve gotten a coronavirus vaccine

Many Americans are excited to get vaccinated against the new coronavirus so they can resume their pre-pandemic normal lives, but scientists say even with a vaccine, it may not be safe to resume many pre-pandemic activities just yet, Claire Cain Miller reports for the
New York Times The Upshot.
Why getting vaccinated doesn t mean it s safe to resume your pre-pandemic life
According to scientists, there are many reasons why getting vaccinated against the new coronavirus doesn t mean Americans can instantly return to their pre-pandemic normal lives. Perhaps the biggest reason, according to scientists, is that some vaccines don t provide people with perfect immunity against a virus, and that could be the case with America s newly authorized vaccines. ....

Vaccines are here, bringing hope of the pandemic’s end. But even when you get your dose, it won’t mean an immediate return to life as you knew it.
Scientists cite several reasons for staying masked and cautious as you start your post-vaccine life. Vaccines don’t offer perfect protection; we don’t yet know whether vaccinated people can spread the virus; and coronavirus is likely to continue its rapid spread until a large majority of the population is vaccinated or has survived a natural infection. ....

Post COVID-19 Vaccine: What Activities Can You Do and When Can Things Go Back to Normal?

21 December 2020, 9:53 am EST By
After a year of quarantining and not being able to see our friends in person, a year of masks and maskne, and a year of uncertainties, the COVID-19 vaccine is finally here and will be rolling out sooner than later, giving the public some glimmer of hope that the end is here and we can go back to how things were pre-coronavirus.
Nevertheless, would things really go back to how they were? What happens after we receive the COVID-19 vaccine?
Why Masks are Still Important
Before the general public can receive the vaccine shots, most governments, including the United States, are planning to have the frontliners get the dosages first, especially as they are most vulnerable to getting the disease. ....
