Minutes after Derek Chauvin was pronounced guilty of second-degree and third-degree murder in the killing of George Floyd, New Hampshire elected officials from both parties said more work needs to be done.
“Based on overwhelming evidence, I supported charges being brought against Derek Chauvin from the beginning and I am glad justice has prevailed,” Gov. Chris Sununu quickly announced.
However, the state’s top Republican largely stood alone, as GOP leaders in the State House did not echo his words.
“George Floyd should be alive today,” Sununu added, “and while he will sadly never be able to return to his friends and family, we can appreciate that justice through our legal system has been delivered. I join the people of New Hampshire in praying for George Floyd and his family and hope we can heal as a nation.” ....

New Hampshire's BLM Leaders Ask: How Many More Vigils Will We Need To Hold?

Over 100 people gathered in Manchester Saturday night for another vigil honoring those who have lost their lives to police violence.
New Hampshire’s Black Lives Matter leaders who organized the event say they re tired. After a year of calling for change, they said there has been no real action from state leaders to enact racial justice reform, as police killings of Black people across the country continue.
The vigil, organized by the Manchester YWCA along with several local BLM chapters, was officially in memory of 20-year-old Daunte Wright who was killed by police in Minnesota during a traffic stop. ....

N.H. Activists See Hypocrisy In Police Response To Capitol Insurrection Vs. Racial Justice Protests

Racial justice activists in New Hampshire say the police response to Wednesday s insurrection by a pro-Trump mob at the U.S. Capitol was a stark contrast to their own experience with law enforcement at protests.
They said they saw more police presence at New Hampshire s peaceful protests this past summer in response to police killings of Black people.
In several cases last year, local law enforcement was seen protecting protesters from Trump supporters who had come to counter-protest.
But Black Lives Matter Seacoast organizer Julian Maduro said there were violent shows of force against racial justice activists at a protest she attended in late May, in Portland, Maine. And at similar protests around the country, videos show police partially blinding several people with rubber bullets. ....
