Stringer sues de Blasio over emergency contracting order

New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer is suing Mayor Bill de Blasio over the use of COVID-19 procurement-related emergency powers.
In the lawsuit, filed Tuesday in state Supreme Court in Manhattan, Stringer called for a return of regulations that require oversight by his office on city spending.
On March 17, 2020, as the pandemic escalated, de Blasio issued the executive order which suspended the city charter. His office has since registered nearly $7 billion in coronavirus-related contracts.
“Mayor de Blasio’s ongoing suspension of procurement rules continues to expose the city to waste and fraud,” said Stringer, a failed mayoral candidate who is term-limited as comptroller. ....

New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer has filed a lawsuit against Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) and the city over its emergency purchasing powers during the coronavirus pandemic.
Stringer is asking the New York Supreme Court to rescind an executive order de Blasio signed in March 2020 that allowed the city to make multiple COVID-19-related procurements without his office s oversight.
The suit alleges that the city registered almost $7 billion in COVID-19-related contracts and contract actions . to procure goods, including some that in actuality, are unrelated to the City s emergency response - all without Comptroller oversight. ....

NYC has to settle for $1.9M after claiming it lost $4.3M trying to buy ventilators


MIAMI (Legal Newsline) – New York recovered about half of the money it claims a medical supply company scammed it out of during last year’s rush to purchase ventilators.
The city and Global Medical Supply Group filed the terms of their settlement in Miami federal court on April 7. They stipulated to final judgment entered in favor of NYC on its breach of contract allegation, which is one of 10 claims made by the city in its lawsuit.
NYC will be paid almost $1.9 million under that claim and the rest were voluntarily dismissed, closing the case.
NYC filed a lawsuit Oct. 8 in Florida federal court against Global Medical Supply Group, Nations Fast Tax & Accounting and Zhejiang Jinrong Trading Co., as well as four individuals. ....
