Efficient motors and drives ‘could hit 40% of Paris climate goals’

ABB has published a White Paper arguing that high-efficiency motors and VSDs (variable-speed drives) could by themselves achieve more than 40% of the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions needed to meet the 2040 goals established by the Paris climate agreement. It calls on governments and industry around the world to accelerate the adoption of these technologies to help combat climate change.

Deep Purple green hydrogen project secures backing from Innovation Norway

TechnipFMC is moving ahead with a pilot project for the Deep Purple green hydrogen offshore energy system, which is a key component of its energy transition offering.
The company is leading the consortium to construct and test the system, with Innovation Norway recently announcing its contribution to this €9 million pilot project.
Deep Purple uses offshore wind energy to release hydrogen from seawater. The hydrogen is then stored subsea for later use to provide renewable energy. Deep Purple overcomes one of the challenges of storing energy generated from renewable sources. Deploying these systems is critical to accelerating the energy transition. ....

ABB Power Products Q4 PAT jumps 54% YoY to Rs 55 cr

ABB Power Products and Systems India reported a 54.9% jump in net profit to Rs 54.96 crore on 6.90% decline in total revenue from operations to Rs 1,043.7 crore in Q4 December 2020 over Q4 December 2019.ABB Power Products follows a calendar year for accounting. The company s profit before tax jumped 79.8% to Rs 75.58 crore in Q4 December 2020 over Q4 December 2019. Total tax expense were steeply higher at Rs 20.62 crore in Q4 December 2020 as compared to Rs 6.5 crore in Q4 December 2019.
The company s operating EBITA slumped 28.9% year on year to Rs 65.9 crore in Q4 December 2020 from Rs 92.8 crore in Q4 December 2019. EBITA margin declined to 6.3% in Q4 December 2020 from 8.3% in Q4 December 2019. Meanwhile, the company has declared a dividend of Rs 2 per share. ....

Formula E expands global broadcast coverage

On the eve of its first season as an FIA World Championship, Formula E has announced that its seventh edition will be broadcast live in over 150 countries, across six continents.
The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is a single-seater motorsport series that uses only electric cars and season 7 will begin on 26 and 27 February with a double header in the dark of Diriyah in Saudi Arabia and Formula E has agreed new or extended media partnerships with over 40 broadcasters, notably Seven.One Entertainment Group (SAT.1) in Germany, CBS in the US, Discovery (Eurosport) across Europe, Sky Italia in Italy, Cultura and Globo in Brazil and SuperSport in Africa. The new partnerships will result in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship being broadcast in more than 30 languages around the world, with over 60 hours of live, and 40 hours of non-live programming per season. ....
