Washington teachers, school staff could be eligible for COVID-19 vaccine earlier than expected

Teachers and other school staff returning to in-person school in Washington state could be eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine earlier than expected.
Changes to the state Department of Health vaccination plan by Gov. Jay Inslee on Monday moved the state into Phase 1B of the plan, allowing everyone over the age of 65 to receive the vaccine.
The changes also created flexibility for providers administering the vaccine starting in Phase 1B Tier 2. Prior to the changes, only teachers 50 and older were eligible to receive the vaccine, and all other teachers had to wait until Tier 4. Now, providers can combine Tiers 2 and 4, making all school staff eligible for the vaccine regardless of age. ....

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — As the number of Californians testing positive for COVID-19 continues to climb, California workers have new protections to help keep them healthy.
Assembly Bill 685, which took effect Jan. 1 of this year, deals with COVID-19 exposure, notification, and violations.
The new law requires employers to provide notice within one business day to employees who have been exposed to COVID-19 at their worksite and report to the California Department of Public Health if an outbreak occurs.
The reason that we had to introduce this is because we had lots of employers who were not notifying their employees when they had been exposed to someone who was positive for COVID-19,” said bill author Assemblymember Eloise Reyes. It seemed like it was common sense, but it wasn t happe ....
