Tyler Kerr, the University of Wyoming makerspace coordinator in the Innovation Wyrkshop, recently was named UW staff employee of the year.
Because of COVID-19 concerns, this year’s in-person Staff Recognition Day was canceled. The annual event honors the hard-working staff of UW. It provides an opportunity to show all staff members how much they are appreciated for everything they do to keep the main UW campus, and throughout the state, functioning and providing a top-notch educational experience to thousands of students. ....

A hackathon hosted by the Society of Women Engineers at the University of Washington later this month wants to play a role in helping close the gender gap both in education and the tech industry.
The hackathon, SWE Hacks: Hack for Impact, will this year only allow female-identifying and non-binary students to participate in the virtual event. ....

Deborah "Debbie" (Kennedy) Benell


She also escaped the grip of cancer after more than 3 years.
Debbie was born on September 26, 1950 in Madison to Damain and Lucille Kennedy. She was raised in the historic 4th Ward of Madison, where she would walk to school with her life-long friends to St. Raphael’s Grade School and Central High School (Class of ’68). Debbie was a very proud and loyal Centralite!
Shortly after high school graduation she began a career with the UW Madison as a Program Associate at the UW College of Engineering, Department of Professional Development. She remained with the Department until her retirement after 49 years of loyalty and a steadfast focus of continuing excellence. Debbie worked side-by-side with professors and engineers of all mechanical and electrical disciplines forming long and heartfelt friendships with all co-workers. Debbie’s unwavering loyalty to her work earned her recognition and awards at the highest levels upon her retirement, including: ....

UW alumnus developing solar ranch to drive clean-energy innovation, donate power

CASPER, Wyo A University of Wyoming alumnus is using his ranch just north of Laramie to create a solar energy research facility that will donate power back to UW and develop its clean-energy innovation curriculum.
“Through our partnership with UW, we will be creating endowed professorships and student scholarships to attract the best minds in the clean energy sphere,” said Gene Humphrey, co-founder of 9H Research Foundation, in a UW release Friday. ....
