US sanctions two Khamenei foundations in latest pressure on Iran

SHARE
The Trump administration on Wednesday sanctioned two organisations controlled by Iran s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control announced the sanctions on two Iranian organisations, along with their leaders and subsidiaries, believed to be controlled by Mr Khamenei.
The organisations are the Execution of Imam Khomeini’s Order (Eiko), and Astan Quds Razavi (AQR).
It is said the two foundations “control large swaths of the Iranian economy, including assets expropriated from political dissidents and religious minorities, to the benefit of supreme leader Ali Khamenei and senior Iranian government officials.”
“These institutions enable Iran’s elite to sustain a corrupt system of ownership over large parts of Iran’s economy,” US Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said. ....

The latest move, which is effective Jan. 11, marks the third time in less than a week the Big Board has ruled on the issue.
The flip-flopping highlights the confusion over which companies were included in an executive order issued by President Donald Trump in November barring U.S. persons from investing in publicly traded companies Washington deems to be tied to the Chinese military. ....

Iran bans the import of US and UK Covid-19 vaccines

Iran has prohibited the import of American and British Covid-19 vaccines
January 8, 2021 at 2:27 pm
Iran has prohibited the import of American and British Covid-19 vaccines. The order was given to the government in Tehran by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
I have no confidence in them, explained Khamenei in a live televised speech. Sometimes they want to test vaccines on other nations… If the Americans were able to produce a vaccine, they would not have such a coronavirus fiasco in their own country.
Khamenei added that he does not trust the French vaccine either, due to France s infected blood scandal in the 1980s and 1990s. But if they [the Iranian authorities] want to import vaccines from a reliable place, there is no problem. ....
