Litter bug park trail launched for children in South Oxfordshire


An ACTIVITY trail has been launched for half term to encourage recycling.
From May 29 to June 5 Vale of White Horse and South Oxfordshire district councils are running a new Litter Bug Detectives Trail for children.
The trails will be available in Edmonds Park in Didcot, Southern Road Recreation Ground in Thame, Abbey Garden Meadows in Abingdon and Memorial Park in Wantage.
The activities are aimed at primary school children to promote recycling and reuse messages and explaining the damage litter does to our environment.

Looking through the history of Didcot with David Taylor


WITH the start of a new year, I thought I would take a look back at some of my previous submissions regarding the history of Didcot.
Archaeological digs indicate evidence of Iron Age and Romano-British occupation in the area. A Saxon settlement named Wibaldston was recorded in the Domesday register of 1086.
From approximately 1200, the name Duddas Cot (Cottage of Dydda) appears. The Stonor family owned the village of Duddas Cot for some 300 years, from 1300.
Didcot or Ducote as it was known continued as a typical agricultural village with farm labourers cottages huddled around All Saints Church in the Manor Road vicinity. ....

Year-Round Lights Keep Sherman Festive | News, Sports, Jobs

SHERMAN The village of Sherman will be festive and bright year-round, board members decided at their recent meeting.
Jay Irwin, chief wastewater operator, explained to board members that he and streets superintendent Doug Crane have discussed using the Christmas light strands for other seasons. He said they are considering pastel colors for Easter; red, white and blue for July; and orange, yellow and black for the fall.
Irwin also noted how dark Main Street is now that the Christmas lights have been removed. He suggested that white LED lights could also be put in, especially in the winter, to help light Main Street. ....
