ALL banks open tomorrow

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has announced that all state and private banks will remain open tomorrow (12).
In view of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, the Ministry of Public Administration announced that 12 April would be declared as a special public holiday. 
However, this will not be a bank holiday.
The Narahenpita and Werahera Offices of the Department of Motor Traffic anounced that they will Provide Services as usual for the Public on 12.04.2021, the Special Public  Holiday.
Public services provided by Narahenpita and Werahera Offices of the Department of Motor Traffic will continue as usual on 12.04.2021, the special public holiday, for the clients who have already reserved a time over the telephone No. 0112 677877 which has been introduced in order to provide more efficient and friendly service. ....

Minister of Youth & Sports, Honorable Namal Rajapaksa declared open the ‘Underwater Gallery Nilwella’ at Nilwella beach yesterday (10th April 2021).
Built with the contribution of the Sri Lanka Navy, this latest addition in the southern coast of Nilwella, would from here on attract more local and foreign holidaymakers towards this popular tourist destination.
The project had been set in motion after taking a wide array of matters into consideration. Among them; prevention of harmful effects on marine animals, plants and corals due to natural and human activities, protection of the marine ecosystem, creation of an artificial fish breeding environment, provision of artificial substrates for coral reefing and offering a magnificent site for scuba divers were factored. ....

Sri Lanka and New Zealand inaugurate Foreign Ministry Consultations - High Commission to open this year

The First Round of Foreign Ministry Consultations between Sri Lanka and New Zealand was held virtually on 08 April 2021. The meeting was co-chaired by Actg. Director General of the East Asia Division of the Foreign Ministry Rohana Ambagolla and the Divisional Manager, South, and Southeast Asia Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand Andrew Needs.
A wide range of matters of mutual interest were discussed.
This included enhancing cooperation in multiple spheres ranging from trade, development cooperation, defence, people-to-people exchanges, and education to sports and tourism. The two countries agreed to finalize a bilateral arrangement for establishing a constructive mechanism for enhancing trade and economic cooperation and for increasing bilateral exchanges in all areas of engagement. ....

Roshan Abeysundara breaks a 50 year old record - swims to India and back in 28 hours

Leading Aircraftman Roshan Abeysundara, a promising swimming start from the SLAF set a new world record. Roshan swam from Mannar to Danuskodi, Rameshwaran in India and back, covering a distance of 59.3 Kms.
It took him a record 28 hours, 19 minutes and 58 seconds to swim from Thalaimannar to the coast of Danuskodi, Rameshwaran in India.
He will enter the Guinness World Record Book as he renewed V.S. Kumar Anandan s 50-year-old record which was set in 1971 by swimming the Palk Strait in 51 hours. 
The leading Aircraftman has now conquered the seas a domain of the Navy. 
In line with his special effort, Leading Aircraftman Abeysundara called on the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana today (09 April 2021) before departing for Mannar to embark on his record-breaking mission. A recent donation to the museum collection is a small, inconspicuous object which had us puzzled for a while.
It has two little red plastic cylinders with a piece of red cotton tape wound around, fastened with a metal dome. These objects, plus variations, were used extensively in both world wars and were instrumental in saving many lives. The users were often under fire and some were awarded medals for bravery. Can you guess what it is? ....
