Church agency seeks to build peace in violence-hit Africa

A Vatican recognized charity has increased its efforts to foster peaceful coexistence between religions in Africa after reporting an increase in Muslim violence against Christians in various counries across the vast continent.
Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), a pontifical foundation supporting persecuted Christians worldwide, said it has taken several steps to bring peace between Africa s 685 million Christians and its 446 million Muslims.
In its recently released report on Religious Freedom in the World, ACN said Christians face severe persecution in 12 of 26 African countries.
It noted that there has been a rise in transnational Islamist networks in Africa. ....

CAMEROON: End to Violence Appeals Dominate Cardinal Tumi’s Burial in Douala

DOUALA, APRIL 23, 2021 (CISA)– “Africa has had enough,” Philippe Cardinal Ouédraogo President of Symposium of Episcopal Conferences in Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) has said appealing for an end to violence in Cameroon and across Africa in honour of late Cardinal Christian Tumi.
The Archbishop of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso was speaking at Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Douala during funeral Mass of Cardinal Tumi held on April 20.
“People hungry for blood like Cain kill their brothers without any reason. All violence against any human being is an attack on God himself because God made man in his own image,” the cardinal said acknowledging the contribution of Cardinal Tumi is pursuit of lasting peace in Cameroon. ....
