ANGOLA â Prairie Heights High School and Angola High School have one big thing in common this year: their valedictorians are cousins. Angolaâs Allyson Ditmars and Prairie Heightsâs Haylee Henderson are the daughters of sisters Mary Ditmars and Rae Henderson, who come from the Lepley family. Mary married Allyson s father, Eric Ditmars, and Rae married Haylee s father, James Henderson. Allyson and Haylee have been good friends ever since they were little. After all, the two are only a month apart in age. Allyson was born on July 10, 2002, and Haylee followed soon after on August 9. âThey would be on the couch talking, and nobody else mattered,â Mary said. ....
To the editor: On Earth Day 13 volunteers collected trash along the Auburn/Waterloo Trail under the leadership of Rotarian Norman Yoder to prepare the trail for mowing. Later in the season Bill Brandon and the city plan to re-seed the area where new drain tile was placed last year to improve drainage. Also, the Auburn Parks Department and County Highway Department have continued mowing the grass along the trail. Eric Ditmars has applied weed killer for many years as well. Paul Miller and Ken Metzger work to maintain the park with help from Clint Stephenâs beautiful flowers. Our community can be proud of this trail which will soon be expanded into Waterloo. ....
AUBURN â Neighboring homeowners who want to buy a piece of Don Lash Park have been mowing and maintaining that section for some 25 years, one of those residents said Tuesday. âThis land has truly been maintainedâ by the neighbors, Laura Smart told the Auburn Parks and Recreation Board. âLet us take that land over, and we will be more than happy to continue to maintain it. ⦠We are the ones taking care of it.â Four of her neighbors who live on Portage Pass in northeast Auburn joined Smart at the park boardâs meeting in Rieke Park Lodge. âOne of the problems we have is ⦠woodchucks and all kinds of things in our backyard when the grass would get a foot deep,â said Jerry Akey. Another neighbor said snakes can be a problem. ....
