President Joe Biden held a news briefing Thursday afternoon on the cyber attack on the Colonial Pipeline that has affected gasoline supply and costs across the U.S.

Colonial Pipeline, the nation’s largest fuel pipeline that delivers about 45% of the fuel consumed on the East Coast, was targeted in a cyber attack on Friday.
The hackers are reportedly part of a group that gains control of online systems and holds them for ransom. The FBI on Monday said the individual whose ransomware was used in the cyber attack is named DarkSide. Members of the group are also Russian speakers, according to the FBI. ....

On Wednesday morning, a car identified as a 2004 Hummer H2 went up in flames mere feet from a service station in Homosassa, Florida, according to local newspaper The Citrus County Chronicle.
When firefighters arrived at the scene of the explosion, they discovered that the driver of the car had stockpiled fuel in tanks in the back of the car. The tanks, which were able to hold a combined 20 gallons, had been melted and blackened in the inferno, according to The Drive.

Alaska North Slope crude rose 37 cents to close at $67.85 per barrel May 12, while West Texas International rose 80 cents to close at $66.08 and Brent rose 77 cents to close at $69.32.
It was the highest close for WTI since March 5, and the highest close for Brent since March 11.

Gasoline stations from Florida to Virginia were running on empty as motorists made a run on gas as the closure of the US largest fuel pipeline entered its fifth day Tuesday after an alleged ransomware attack.
Officials urged customers not to hoard gasoline as Colonial Pipeline, headquartered in Alpharetta, Georgia, has forecast that it will need until the weekend to substantially restore operations of the 5,500-mile pipeline network that supplies nearly half of the East Coast s fuel.
The pipeline daily transports more than 100 million gallons of gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and heating oil, or roughly 45 percent of fuel consumed on the Eastern Seaboard between the Gulf Coast and the New York metropolitan area. ....
