This blue and green planet that is home has continued to revolve around the sun and the quiet starkness of winter has given way to the promise of spring. 
Now is the perfect time to get outside and to explore nature as it awakens. And Massachusetts has many beautiful gardens - old and new - to experience this comforting time of renewal.

GROTON, Mass. A rural New England cemetery is not where you’d expect to spot four-time Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan and other Hollywood A-listers on a crisp autumn day.
But there the actors were in 2018, and now on screens around the world, in the Old Burying Ground cemetery in Groton, just one of several real-life locations that director Greta Gerwig used in her much-applauded remake of Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel “Little Women.” Gerwig’s film was nominated for six Academy Awards. ....

Trustees of Reservations mourn loss of president Barbara Erickson


First woman president transformed the environmental mission

BOSTON  Environmental conservationists, outdoor enthusiasts and families across the state were saddened to learn Thursday of the untimely passing of Barbara J. Erickson, the vibrant and accomplished president and CEO of The Trustees of Reservations.
Surrounded by her family, Erickson, 42, died from a rare cancer of the appendix at home on Friday, Jan. 15 after four years of treatment. She lived in Newton and Chatham.
Erickson, outgoing and creative, transformed the mission of the nonprofit land conservation and historic preservation organization after she became it s first woman president in 2012.
Ambition, tenacity, and audacious thinking defined Barbara’s presidency, Peter Coffin, chair of the Trustees board of directors said in a message to members. ....

The light show has been extended through Jan. 17, 2021. Though the Stockbridge event is sold out, as of this writing tickets are still available in Canton.
Tackle the snow this season at Notchview in Windsor, part of the Hoosac Range in the Berkshire Hills, which offers more than 3,000 acres of rolling terrain for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The property offers equipment rentals, “learn to ski” programs, and private lessons through April.
Those looking for more cross-country trails will find them at Brooks Woodland Preserve in Petersham, Bullitt Reservation in Ashfield, Copicut Woods in Fall River, Field Farm in Williamstown, Noon Hill in Medfield, and Ravenswood Park in Gloucester. ....
