The stories of Parihaka, Bastion Point and Ihumātao have been widely reported throughout the history of colonisation. But few know of the peaceful Waitaha stand against the Crown 143 years ago in South Canterbury, its legacy still impacting on iwi members today. Esther Ashby-Coventry reports.
