International markets offer hope for 2021
Although domestic milk supplies have been growing and keeping milk prices lower as we start 2021, international markets offer hope for higher prices as the year unfolds. The graphs of dairy product prices below show higher international dairy product prices relative to U.S. values for the first quarter of 2021.
Oceania skim milk powder prices have surged to $1.48 per pound in the first quarter of 2021, recovering from the $1.17 per pound level at the height of COVID-19 shutdowns around the world in the second quarter of 2020. Oceania butter prices, which had remained under pressure in part due to the food service shuttering that occurred around the world, expanded to $2.33 per pound in the first quarter of 2021. Oceania cheese prices have moved back above U.S. levels to begin 2021, following the second half of 2020 when domestic cheese prices were influenced by USDA food box purchases. ....

2020 second highest year for U.S. ag exports


Last year was the second highest year for U.S. agricultural exports, according to USDA s Foreign Agricultural Service s (FAS) 2020 U.S. Agricultural Export Yearbook. Total exports were nearly $146 billion, an increase of approximately 7%. This is the second highest level on record, after 2014.
FAS said the primary factor for the increase in exports was the increased shipments of soybeans, corn and pork to China.
Soybeans were the United States number one agricultural export at $25.7 billion, an increase of 38% over 2019. Soybeans represented nearly 18% of total U.S. agricultural exports in 2020, with  China accounting for 55% of total soybean exports. 
Corn exports were $9.2 billion, an increase of 20% over 2019, led by a $1.1 billion increase in exports to China.  Mexico and Japan were the top two markets.  ....

The 2020 value of U.S. fresh fruit and vegetable exports declined slightly, according to a USDA analysis.
www.thepacker.com reports, the 76-page 2020 U.S. Ag Export Yearbook reported U.S. fresh fruit and vegetable exports reached $6.9 billion in 2020, a 2% decline from 2019.
The report says U.S. apple exports experienced the largest drop, down $105 million, more than half of the overall decline, with the largest losses in Taiwan, India, and Canada.

The 2020 US Agricultural Export Yearbook provides a statistical summary of US agricultural commodity exports to the world and the United States’ primary trading partners.
In 2020, the value of US fre
sh fruit and vegetable exports to the world reached $6.9 billion, a 2- percent decline from the prior year. Due to geographic proximity and climate, Canada remained the top US market, accounting for 49 percent of total exports, or $3.5 billion. Mexico came in a distant second with 10 percent of US exports while no other markets had more than 7 percent share of exports. ....
