Thousands of people are expected to be vaccinated in the museum each week by NHS medical professionals, supported by staff from the museum.
It s the first national museum in the UK to host a vaccination centre.
It s wonderful to see part of the Science Museum repurposed for this country s most pressing task in a generation, vaccinating the adult population, said Sir Ian Blatchford, the museum s director.
The museum on Exhibition Road in South Kensington. Due to the latest coronavirus restrictions, the museum is temporarily closed
Uniquely, our museum can both tell the story of how vaccination has saved millions of lives, and also play a part in ensuring vaccines protect the nation from Covid-19.  ....

Catherine Norah “Norrie” Egan
My mother, Norrie Egan, born in Dublin, graduated from St. Vincent’s Hospital/UCD with a Diploma in Radiography in 1940 and worked at St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, London during WWII. She was injured during an air raid – not from a bomb – she was cycling her bicycle to work when she was hit by a cab. Though it was wartime, she loved her job and being in London. She had many stories about the war, one being that because she spoke French, she was sent to meet the injured soldiers, French and English, who were brought to England after the Battle of Dunkirk. Another story was of working with St. Mary’s alumnus Sir Alexander Fleming who won the Nobel Prize in 1945 for his discovery of penicillin. He was conducting a trial using penicillin on returning arm ....

National Inventors' Day: Ayrshire's brightest minds remembered

1. Alexander Fleming
Born in 1881 in Darvel, Sir Alexander Fleming is the man who discovered penicillin – the world’s first effective antibiotic - and in the process saved millions of lives across the world.
Already known as a brilliant researcher, he found cultures of bacteria left in his lab to have been contaminated by a fungus…. which was destroying them. That was penicillin. He shared the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1945 and was recently voted the Third Greatest Scot, behind Robert The Bruce and William Wallace.
2. John Dunlop
John Boyd Dunlop, born in Dreghorn in 1840, invented the pneumatic tyre. An inventor and vet, he came up with the first inflatable tyre for his son’s bicycle in Ireland in 1997 and revolutionised transport in the process. It was soon used for cycle racing and within years, Dunlop tyres made their name around the world. ....
