The Hellenic Initiative announces $50,000 grant to fight hunger in Athens

Athens Food Bank, a member of the European Food Banks Federation (FEBA) since 1995, helped many needy families during Greece’s 10-year crisis.
Last year, the long-awaited economic recovery arrived but was cut short by COVID-19, making Food Bank’s battle against food insecurity more important than ever.
“The Food Bank illustrates the reality that the effects of the Greek economic crisis will linger in the form of a weakened ability to confront new challenges. Thankfully, THI is able to work with groups like Food Bank that are able to immediately help people in need,” said Maria Allwin, THI Board Member. ....

Commission welcomes agreement on additional financial support for the most deprived under REACT-EU

The European Parliament has voted through the political agreement reached by the co-legislators on the Commission s proposal to
provide more funds to support the most deprived in Europe in the recovery phase. EU Member States can soon use money from the Recovery Assistance for Cohesion and the Territories of Europe package (REACT-EU), which provides additional resources to tackle the social and economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic, for programmes financed by the
Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived (FEAD).
The FEAD is already providing food, clothing and other basic material assistance to those who need it most, and finances activities to support their social inclusion.
