Today, Minister Jože Podgoršek held a meeting by video conference with the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakides. They discussed Slovenia s priorities during the Presidency of the Council of the EU.
Minister Podgoršek opened by saying to the Commissioner that Slovenia has been working intensely to prepare for the Presidency. He stressed that we are aware that cooperation with the Commission is important for the successful accomplishment of tasks.
The Minister also presented to the Commissioner the priorities of the Slovenian Presidency in the field of health and food safety. ....

Left calls for parliamentary committee to investigate EU vaccines scandal


Left MEPs are demanding the establishment of a European Parliament Committee of Inquiry to scrutinise the series of blunders by the Commission, which have led to serious delays in the roll-out of vaccination campaigns across the EU. 
As the pandemic rages and people continue to die, the Commission has been embroiled in a high-profile spat with pharmaceutical corporations over delivery of vaccines ordered as early as last summer. 
The Commission has turned a deaf ear to widespread calls from the public, civil society and from within the European Parliament to lift Intellectual Property Rights of vaccines to allow for mass production, choosing instead to protect the profits of pharmaceutical corporations over the health of EU citizens.  ....

Kelleher commits to 'highest animal welfare' on exports 19 January 2021 Free

Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Billy Kelleher has taken a position against imposing a maximum travel time on animals being exported.
He said it was a “red line” for him in a statement made upon his recent promotion to being a full member of the European Parliament’s Committee of Inquiry into Animal Transport (ANIT).
“Every year, Irish farmers export nearly 300,000 live animals off the island to the EU and further afield, amounting to an economic boost of over €400m,” Kellher said.

“My position is very clear on this matter – the highest animal welfare standards must be applied at all stages of the supply chain. This is non-negotiable for me. I do believe the industry is ready and willing to increase its own standards. ....
