Conservative grassroots organizer challenges Colorado Republicans

Republicans across the country are doing some hard thinking about the future of their party after four years of Donald Trumpâs presidency came to an end, but not before a violent attempted takeover of the United States Capitol on Jan. 6. In El Paso County, which had one of the biggest voter shifts in the state away from Trump when comparing the 2016 and 2020 elections, longtime Republicans are now dealing with an attempt by political activist group FEC United to commandeer the party.
The divisions within the local GOP â between the relatively moderate voices of career Republicans and those willing to embrace the angry far-right â have come to a head in recent weeks. El Paso County Republicans up in arms in advance of local party elections

El Paso County Republicans have been sounding the alarm over plans by the party s embattled chairwoman to engage a group of armed volunteers to provide security at the county GOP s meeting Saturday, when hundreds of Republicans are expected to gather at a Colorado Springs church to elect party officers.
The head of the United American Defense Force, however, said Tuesday that El Paso County GOP Chairwoman Vickie Tonkins had no business saying the group would be involved with the political party and could have exposed his organization to legal jeopardy.

An under-fire mayor in Colorado has again denied he supports QAnon after he was found sharing slogans linked to the conspiracy theory on social media.
Parker Mayor Jeff Toborg posted an image of an American flag on Parler on December 20, before the app was taken down in the wake of the deadly attack on the Capitol which QAnon followers were a part of, along with the caption WWG1WGA.
