The fallacy of the colonial "right to defense" Israel-Palestine conflict

Violence in the Middle East has created heartbreaking images and statistics. While I’m writing this, at least 160 people, most of them Palestinians, including at least 41 children – most of them Palestinians – have been killed as Israeli army bombings in densely populated Gaza and Palestinian armed groups fire rockets into Israeli cities. Meanwhile, inter-communal violence has erupted across Israel.

A sweet statement of “displeasure” and “grave concern” over the deaths of Palestinians have been interspersed with calls for continued support for “Israel’s security and Israel’s legal right to defend itself.” They have also included appeals for “moral clarity” that the actions of Palestinian groups, even if they cause a sma ....

Cases were reported in Nigeria, in several other African countries and in countries as far – away as the United States of America and in Europe.  At the time, I was the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone and I had the difficult task of dealing with an extremely infectious disease unknown to us and many around the world. The situation in all sectors was as grim as it could get. Even the World Health Organisation (WHO) was at pains to fully grasp the unfolding calamity. Within a year, Ebola threatened the peace and security of the three most affected countries, and devastated their economies. Sierra Leone, which experienced a 15% economic growth in 2014, and once reckoned as the fastest growing economy in Africa, slumped to -21%. ....

A mainland spokesperson on Thursday lashed out at Taiwan s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority for colluding with external forces and challenging the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 in an attempt to back the Taiwan independence fallacy.
Ma Xiaoguang, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the comment when responding to a media query about a recent Taiwan-related act put forward by some U.S. politicians in collusion with the DPP authority.
Ma said trying to deny the ironclad fact that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China is ultimately a pipe dream and is doomed to fail. ....
