PBS SoCal and KCET, Southern California’s flagship PBS stations, along with national independent satellite network Link TV, has announced the world premiere of the documentary film LIVES NOT GRADES. The new documentary follows a team of college students at the University of Southern California (USC) as they travel to Greek island of Lesvos as part of a unique course to design and build innovations to improve the lives of refugees. Joseph Wertman, 1943-2021 | News, Sports, Jobs


BOARDMAN Joseph Charles “Charlie” Wertman, 77, passed away peacefully Monday, Jan. 18, 2021, at Hospice House.
Charlie was born June 5, 1943, in the Brownlee Woods neighborhood of Youngstown, the son of the late Edward Wertman and Dorothy Garver Burt. A 1961 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, Charlie was employed as a machine operator for United Engineering and Foundry, later known as Wean United. After 23 years at Wean, he continued his career at Extrusion Dies Inc. and Buckeye Tool and Die. He retired in 2010 after 30-plus years of dedicated employment.
While employed full time, Charlie made custom orthopedic shoes and braces for many years prior to retirement. Upon retirement, he was employed by Mercy Health in the dietary department. ....

Geography comes first. Close upon the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers, one gets a sense of westward flowing waters, but a map of Western Pennsylvania shows the Allegheny flowing south and the Monongahela north, almost at right angles to the Ohio.
A fourth river, the Potomac, comes into play by bringing the coast of Virginia close to the Monongahela and allowing for some tough navigation to connect Pittsburgh with the Atlantic Ocean. Lastly the mountains. The western slope of the Alleghenies lies some 40 miles from the Point. From there, it’s a straight 1,500-mile shot to the Rockies. Pittsburgh not only faces but opens the great heartland of America. Before the canals and railroads, the Ohio and Mississippi river systems were the interstate highways of their day. ....
