A 30-year-old man went into multiple organ failure a few days after he injected himself with a self-made âmagic mushroom tea.â The case, reported by doctors from Creighton University School of Medicine, Phoenix, is regarding âMr X,â who suffers from bipolar disorder and depression. He also has a history of opioid dependency.
According to researchers, he boiled the mushrooms in water, filtered the liquid using a cotton swab before âdirectly injectingâ the solution into his veins. By doing so, he had hoped to relieve symptoms of bipolar disorder and decrease his opioid dependence. However, he ended up at the emergency department with fungus growing in his blood. ....

Kentucky Opioid Response Effort Announces New Recovery Community Center Grants

The Kentucky Opioid Response Effort (KORE) has announced the award of four grants to support the establishment or expansion of four Recovery Community Centers. The grants total $1.5 million to be awarded over two years.
New grant recipients include Recovery Café in Lexington, Achieving Recovery Together (ART) in Winchester, and Shepherd’s House in Nicholasville. Voices of Hope (VOH) Recovery Community Center in Lexington, which had previously received KORE funding in support of its services, will receive a new round of funding to launch mobile recovery support services to more communities within the Lexington, Frankfort, and Louisville areas. ....
