Kenya expects IMF review of its programme to be successful - Treasury

NAIROBI, June 23 (Reuters) - Kenya’s Treasury said on Wednesday that the review of its 38-month International Monetary Fund programme is about to be concluded and it expects it to be approved, finance minister Ukur Yatani said in a statement.
The outcome of the review is expected to be released soon after the IMF’s Executive Board meets on Wednesday, Kenya’s Treasury said. If approved, it could unlock $410 in funding to the East African country.
“We expect the review to be successful given the progress we have made towards the goals we had set for ourselves under the programme,” Yatani said. ....

UPDATE 1-Kenya's Safaricom, partners aim to start Ethiopia operations in 2022

NAIROBI, May 24 (Reuters) - A consortium led by Kenyan telecoms operator Safaricom aims to start operations in Ethiopia next year, it said on Monday, after winning a licence on Saturday.
The consortium, which also includes South Africa’s Vodacom and Britain’s Vodafone, won the licence with a bid of $850 million, government officials in Addis Ababa said on Saturday.
“The partners . will establish a new operating company in Ethiopia which aims to start providing telecommunication services from 2022,” they said in a joint statement.
Other partners in the consortium are British development finance agency CDC Group and Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation. ....
