WINNIPEG - Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers made another statement Monday.
The Winnipeg Jets, meanwhile, continued their search for answers.
McDavid scored his third hat trick of the season and added an assist to give him an NHL-best 81 points as the Oilers dismantled the Jets 6-1 to leapfrog their rival for second place in North Division.
The Oilers captain, who became the first player to crack the 80-point plateau through 46 games of a season since Mario Lemieux in 1996-97, is on pace to record 99 points in the league s pandemic-shortened campaign with 10 dates left on Edmonton s schedule. ....

EDMONTON - Connor McDavid scored the winner late in the third period as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Montreal Canadiens 4-1 in a physical affair Monday.
Jesse Puljujarvi, with a goal and an assist, Ethan Bear and Devin Shore also scored for Edmonton (27-15-2), while Mike Smith made 22 saves. McDavid also had two assists for a three-point night for the Oilers, who trailed 1-0 with less than 10 minutes to play in regulation. ....

EDMONTON - Giving up a goal less than a minute into the game didn t rattle the Edmonton Oilers.
Kailer Yamamoto scored the first of three straight goals by Edmonton, and the Oilers held on to beat the Ottawa Senators 3-2 on Monday.
Evgenii Dadonov got the Senators on the scoreboard though, just 56 seconds after the puck dropped, but the Oilers didn t falter in the first of three games this week between the two teams. ....
