Clarence Noon a former business rep for the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Council 55 and later Council 5, passed away Feb. 25 in Keizer, Oregon. He was 81.
Noon held a degree in physics and was a math teacher before going into commercial painting and joining Salem-based Painters and Tapers Local 724 (which has since merged into Painters Local 10). He was president of the local and was hired as a business rep by the District Council. He  served in that capacity until retiring in 2001 at age 62.
Clarence Clyde Noon was born Sept. 26, 1939 in Alliance, Nebraska. After graduating from Hemmingford High School in 1957, he joined the Navy and held the rank of Electricians Mate 1st Class. ....

ROCKFORD Painters District Council No. 30 Local Union No. 607 member Sandra Sigala recently received the International Tradeswomen Heroes Award.”
The award is a monthly award established by the North America’s Building Trades Unions to highlight female union trades workers across the U.S. and Canada that lead by example and perform their duties at an outstanding level.
Sigala first joined PDC 30 Local Union No. 607 as an apprentice in 2005. She graduated the program in 2008, earning the Secretary-Treasurer’s Award for her outstanding performance in school, on the job, with the union,and throughout the community. Now a foreman painter, she continues to build upon those performance attributes. ....

Teresa Brophy and Timothy Mitchell met at a dinner dance in the Ormonde Hotel in Dublin. It was love at first sight according to their daughter Therese. Timothy would often miss his last bus home to Dún Laoghaire, walking Teresa back to Christchurch. The couple were married for 58 years and lived in Walkinstown. They had four children and five grandchildren.
Timothy worked for a battery manufacturer in Drimnagh, but as a trained tenor, singing was his passion. He often serenaded his wife Teresa with the song Sweet Sixteen . He was a talented pitch and putt player too, winning many trophies over the years. ....

Nearly three months after a cruel April Fool s Day tumble, the historic Doggie Diner dog s head sign on Sloat Boulevard was restored in a ceremony on Saturday, June 30, 2001. As the crowd of several hundred dog s head aficionados counted down from 10, a Department of Public Works crane slowly lifted up a white sheet, revealing a newly refurbished and sharper-looking dog s head.
The dog s head odyssey began with a chain of fast-food restaurants called the Doggie Diner. The chain opened in 1949 and reached the height of its popularity in the 1960 s and 70 s with restaurants throughout the Bay Area. Outside each restaurant stood a 7-foot tall fiberglass dog s head modeled on a red dachshund with white hat and blue tie that was a big hit with kids and adults alike. ....
