Appreciates Columbus teachers
As Teacher Appreciation Week comes to a close, I would like to pay special tribute to some of my favorites educators. I attended Mitchell Memorial for the First, Second and Fourth Grades. Then attended Coleman Elementary for the Third Grade and Hughes Elementary for the Fifth and Sixth Grades.
Ms. Green was my first-grade teacher Along with Carmichael Egnew, Curtis Cunningham, Marilyn Egnew, Harold Phifer, and Freeman Webber, we learned to read, write and say the Pledge of Allegiance.
Ms. Murray was my second-grade class, where she taught us the importance of being polite and respectful. Often she would remind me that she had taught my “folks,” which meant she knew my mom, aunts and uncles. And that fact along, ensured I was always on my behavior. ....

Ocmulgee River User's Guide is sixth book in Georgia River Network series


Georgia River Network, in partnership with the University of Georgia Press, has released the sixth installment in the organization’s River User’s Guide book series. The Ocmulgee River User’s Guide is now available.
The book is a comprehensive guide to boating, fishing and camping along the 250-mile length of the Ocmulgee River in Middle Georgia as well as the river’s three main tributaries, the South, Yellow and Alcovy rivers which course through metro Atlanta.
Printed on waterproof paper and featuring color maps of every mile of the four rivers along with color photographs, the book is more than just a recreational guide. It brings to life the river’s cultural and natural history, detailing points of interest that river travelers will encounter. ....

No Democratic primary in Ogdensburg this year as City Council candidate petition thrown out


OGDENSBURG — The Democratic Party primary for the City Council race this year has been canceled after St. Lawrence County Board of Elections officials ruled Monday that a petition of a potential candidate is invalid.
Democratic Elections Commissioner Jennie H. Bacon and Republican Elections Commissioner Thomas A. Nichols unanimously ruled Monday morning that the City Council candidate petition submitted by Richard J. Breen, of Ford Street, is invalid. Mr. Breen filed his petition on the Democratic Party line.
Mr. Breen could not be reached for comment Monday. The phone number he provided to the county Board of Elections is out of service. ....
