Indictment unsealed against Buffalo man charged in Jan. 6 Capitol riot

A federal indictment against 35-year-old Thomas Sibick was unsealed Friday, revealing more charges against him in connection with the violent invasion of the US Capitol building on January 6, 2021.
Sibick had already been charged with counts in relation to the January 6 uprising. Prosecutors accuse him of being part of a group that overpowered and assaulted District of Columbia Metropolitian Police Officer Michael Fanone. Sibick insists he was trying to assist the officer, but later turned in Fanone s badge to authorities, after allegedly burying it in the backyard of his Buffalo area home.

Investigators allege he could also be seen in photos holding a Capitol Police officer s shield.  ....

DAPL: Army Corps Won't Appeal But Dakota Access Will

Credit U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia
Opponents to the Dakota Access Pipeline are disappointed that the Biden administration has not shut the pipeline down. Opponents have sued the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, claiming the government permit violated the National Environmental Policy Act.
Last summer plaintiffs claimed victory when a District of Columbia federal judge vacated the permit and ordered the pipeline shut down. The D.C. Court of Appeals quickly reversed the shutdown. But it upheld the finding that the pipeline is operating illegally and sent that issue back to the lower court.
On Friday, April 9, the Corps of Engineers was called to the lower court to explain why, months later, it still allows oil to flow. Reporters were allowed to listen in but could not record. ....

Federal judge orders Sibick held without bond in DC riot case

A federal judge in the District of Columbia reversed a Buffalo federal judge s ruling Tuesday, and ordered a Western New York man held without bond in advance of his trial. An arrest warrant was immediately issued for Thomas Sibick, who was released into home confinement last week while facing charges related to the assault of a police officer at the January 6 U.S. Capitol riot.
Justice Beryl Howell, who determined there is plentiful evidence to deem Sibick a public threat, ruled he is to be held without bond in Washington, D.C. ahead of his trial. The 35-year-old defendant is charged with obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder; assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers or employees; knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority; violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds; and taking from a person anything of value by force and violence or by intimidation. ....
