A bill naming the Grand River post office after an area Marine who was killed in action has been signed into law. The U.S. Post Office at 340 Westmore Ave. will be named after Lance Corporal Andrew Nowacki of Painesville Township, who was killed Feb. 26, 2005 while serving as a gunner on a Humvee that was protecting a truck convoy south of Baghdad. He was 24 years old. âI thank the president for signing this bill into law and helping me preserve the legacy of a true American patriot,â said Rep. Dave Joyce, R-Bainbridge Township, who sponsored the bill. âAndyâs sacrifice in defense of our nation is something we should never forget, as is his dedication to the Grand River community and his desire to help others.

(WTWO/WAWV) -- The first ever ToyStock brought together area musicians, the Marines and a plethora of toys, all to help area children enjoy Christmas. Area bands and musicians performed Saturday at the Joseph A. Bray Marine Corps Detachment. Organized by Musicians Giving Back, the event came close to its $10,0000 goal, with total donations reaching $9,259. Nine and a half boxes of toys filling four pickup trucks were collected for distribution to area children, in addition to the $9,259 collected for the effort and additional funds collected online through the Toys for Tots website.

Eight years ago, the 33-year-old San Diego resident went through boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in South Carolina. Her drill instructors inspired her then and she hopes now to carry that same motivation forward as she helps to forge the Corps' newest Marines. On Wednesday, Dec. 16, Fahl and two other women, Sgt. Ikea Kaufman and Sgt. Stephanie Jordi, made Marine Corps history by becoming the first females to graduate from a gender-integrated drill instructor course at the 100-year-old Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.
