Former city police officer charged with federal civil rights offense


WASHINGTON — Federal law enforcement officials arrested a former City of Logan police officer Thursday morning on a charge of a civil rights offense against an arrestee.
The arrest was made following an indictment by a federal grand jury in Charleston on Tuesday. According to a press release from the United States Department of Justice, the jury indicted Everett Maynard, 44, for using excessive force against an arrestee while Maynard was a police officer with the City of Logan Police Department.
In the indictment, Maynard is charged with one count of deprivation of rights under color of law. The indictment alleges that Maynard used unreasonable force and caused bodily harm to an arrestee identified in the press release as “R.W.” ....

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - An Israeli national pleaded guilty Wednesday for his role in operating DeepDotWeb (DDW), a website that connected internet users with Darknet marketplaces, where they purchased illegal firearms, malware and hacking tools, stolen financial data, heroin and fentanyl, and other contraband.
According to court documents, Tal Prihar, 37, an Israeli citizen residing in Brazil, owned and operated DDW along with co-defendant Michael Phan, 34, of Israel, beginning in October 2013. In addition to providing general information about the Darknet, DDW provided users with direct links to illegal Darknet marketplaces, which are not accessible through traditional search engines. For providing these links, Prihar and Phan received kickback payments from the marketplaces in the form of virtual currency, including approximately 8,155 bitco ....

A website owner who received millions of dollars in kickbacks for connecting internet users to Darknet marketplaces has pleaded guilty in a US court to conspiracy to commit money laundering. 
Thirty-seven-year-old Brazil resident Tal Prihar owned and operated DeepDotWeb along with his co-defendant and fellow Israeli national, 34-year-old Michael Phan. 
Established in 2013, the site not only provided general information about the Darknet, but also featured links to specific sites where users could buy illegal firearms, malware, stolen financial data, illicit drugs, and other contraband.
Every time a user clicked on one of the links, which cannot be found via regular search engines, Prihar and Phan received a payment. In total, hosting the links illegally earned the pair approximately $8.4m, according to court documents. ....
