Mandatory hotel quarantine for travellers from six countries, even if vaccinated: MOPH

Doha: The Ministry of Public Health announced that due to the emergence of a new strain of the Covid-19 virus in India, and in order to preserve public health in the State of Qatar, it was decided that no exceptions to the hotel quarantine policy will apply and that the following measures should be implemented for travellers coming from India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Philippines, whether they are travelling through direct flight or via other countries (transit), which include:
1. All passengers whose original flight is from the said countries are subject to mandatory COVID-19 PCR Test done 48 hours before departure from the testing centers approved by their local health authority. Knowing that no one can board the flight to Qatar without a valid Negative PCR certificate. ....

Singapore to make TraceTogether app mandatory from June 1


More than 90 per cent of the population have either downloaded the TraceTogether app or collected the TraceTogether token. - LIANHE ZAOBAO
SINGAPORE (The Straits Times/ANN): From June 1, digital check-ins for contact tracing at places with higher footfall or where people are likely to be in close proximity can only be done using the TraceTogether app or token.
These places include shopping malls, workplaces, places of worship, schools, educational institutions, dine-in food and beverage outlets and gyms - where the national digital check-in tool SafeEntry has already been implemented.
The mandatory use of TraceTogether comes as more than 90 per cent of the population have either downloaded the app or collected the token, said the Smart Nation and Digital Government Office (SNDGO) and the Ministry of Health (MOH) in a joint statement on Thursday (April 22). ....

Cunningham & Scutari Introduce Bill That Eliminates Mandatory Minimum Sentences for All Nonviolent Offenses
Trenton –Senator Sandra Cunningham and Senator Nick Scutari today introduced legislation to eliminate mandatory minimum sentences for all nonviolent offenses. The new bill, S-3658, is identical to the measure rejected by Governor Murphy with a conditional veto.
“We don’t want to give up on our long fought effort to bring real reforms to the criminal justice system by eliminating mandatory minimum sentences,” said Senator Cunningham, who served on the New Jersey Criminal Sentencing and Disposition Commission, a panel formed by the Governor and the Legislature that issued a series of reform proposals, including the recommended abolition of mandatory minimums. “These mandated sentences played a significant role in New Jersey having the worst disparity in the country for rates of incarceration between Black and white offenders.”   ....

Foreign Umrah pilgrims wishing to travel to Saudi Arabia will have to how a Covid-19 vaccination certificate from their respective countries, said a report.
 
During a recent joint press conference to brief all on the Covid-19 situation, Engineer Hisham Saeed, spokesman of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, made the announcement regarding mandatory vaccination certificates as well as unveiled the ministry’s mechanism for the pilgrims coming from outside the Kingdom during the holy month of Ramadan, said a report in 
Saudi Gazette.
 
In a statement on its Twitter account, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah said that there are five steps that need to be followed by foreign Umrah pilgrims before performing their rituals. ....

Covid-19 Minister Chris Hipkins has admitted the Government could have moved earlier when it came to making the border worker testing register mandatory.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, he told Q&A this morning.
The admission has drawn criticism from the National Party.
This is incomprehensible incompetence, Covid-19 response spokesman Chris Bishop said.
