Fairborn Intermediate wins OAESA award Staff report FAIRBORN Fairborn Intermediate School joins eight other schools in receiving recognition from the Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators (OAESA). Under the leadership of Fairborn Intermediate School Principal, Betsy Wyatt, Fairborn Intermediate School earned the 2021 Hall of Fame School award from OAESA. Recipients of the award must go through a rigorous application process, and are judged by categories including academic programs and assistance, as well as co-curricular activities and support for students and families. “My staff makes me look really good and I am very proud of the students and staff at Fairborn Intermediate School,” said FIS Principal Betsy Wyatt. “We have an excellent culture with a focus on what is best for students each day. Following the winter holidays, Nome Public Schools (NPS) and the Bering Strait School District (BSSD) are returning to in-person instruction which began Monday, January 11th, while the Lower Yukon School District (LYSD) will proceed with a distance-learning model. NPS announced last Thursday via a social media post that they will be returning to in-person learning with “all COVID-19 mitigation procedures still in effect.” Ahead of the announcement, during a Nome School Board meeting in early December, NPS Superintendent Jamie Burgess spoke about the conditions required to return to in-person instruction. “So, if everything works exceptionally well, we’ll be welcoming students back in on January 11th. January 4th was always planned to be a distance-learning week because we will have a significant number of staff and families traveling over the winter break. Auditor approves FCS levy on May ballot By London Bishop - lbishop@aimmediamidwest.com FAIRBORN The Fairborn Board of Education took the second action necessary to place a renewal levy on the May 2021 ballot, as the Greene County Auditor has certified that the millage will be 7.0 mills. This levy request will not increase property taxes, the district says. The levy is a renewal of one that was first passed in 2007, and renewed in 2012 and 2016. The second resolution to place it on the May ballot was passed at the school board’s Jan. 7 meeting. According to FCS, this is reduced from the original 8.6 mills that was passed in 2007. The renewal millage was dropped to 8.4 in 2012, and the proposed 7 mills is the lowest renewal amount to date. ....
