Uptick in Knox County COVID-19 cases causing concern
GALESBURG Knox County s weekly counts of COVID-19 cases continue to be a cause for caution. The Knox County Unified Command announced 32 cases of COVID-19 Friday as having been found between Tuesday and Thursday in the county.
That amount of cases over three days is more than half of the number all of the previous week, when 52 new cases were detected in the county. Of the 32 cases, 27 of were under the age of 50.
The new cases include two girls under the age of 10, two boys under the age of 10, two girls in their 10s, six women in their 20s, three men in their 20s, three women in their 30s, four men in their 30s, four women in their 40s, one man in his 40s, one woman in her 50s, one man in his 50s, one man in his 60s, a woman in her 70s, and a man in his 70s. ....

D205 one step closer to Feb. 22 return

GALESBURG Students are now one step closer to a Feb. 22 return to the classroom in Galesburg District 205.
Board members, the school union and administration agreed to a plan at the Jan. 27 special board meeting to return the district from hybrid learning into a full five-day class schedule, but some logistical issues have persisted.
With lower availability of bus drivers this year, the district was unsure if they would need to postpone students full return to March 1 as drivers were still getting certified. Monday, Superintendent John Asplund announced that they had enough drivers.
There are a few more obstacles that the district will need to surmount in order to return. ....

CUSD 205 to present plan for return to classroom on Feb. 1

GALESBURG District 205 School Board members will meet Tuesday to decide how and when they will bring students back into the district.
The meeting will be held at the district’s administrative office at 932 Harrison Street, and begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26.
According to Superintendent John Asplund, the plan the district will bring forward would start bringing students back to school from the late morning to early afternoon on Monday, Feb. 1.
“We’re looking at bringing the students back in the late morning to early afternoon for a few hours to get people acclimated to coming back,” he said Saturday. “The goal is to quickly ramp that up and we’ll be reporting more on that on Tuesday. The goal is to get a lot more kids in school a lot longer in the day.” ....
