Government urged the US government to quickly enhance operations of three domestic airlines that have been designated to fly into US, in cognisance of the open skies agreement between the two countries. Minister of State for Air Transport, Mr Felix Hassan Hyat, said this yesterday during the inaugural flight of the US -based Delta Airline, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. ....

Many industry stakeholders, including airline operators have over the years lamented how Nigerian carriers have failed in international flight operations.
According to industry observers, without effective interline arrangement with other international carriers that can take their passengers farther, Nigerian airlines would not only continue to perform poorly on international routes, also they would barely make profits on such ventures.
In fact, THISDAY learnt that the airlines that have operated international destinations in Nigeria recorded losses, which were moderated by revenues they were making on domestic services.
That is why there have been advice that Nigerian airlines should develop local destinations and make them profitable. This is because with over 200 million population and road transport threatened by insecurity, air transport holds great optimism for Nigerian carriers. ....

Lekki Gardens, Nigeria’s indigenous real estate company, has appointed Mrs Emily Atebe as an executive director.
It disclosed this in a statement on Saturday titled ‘Former FBNQuest CFO, Emily Atebe, joins Lekki Gardens as executive director’.

West Africa: Nigeria Loses West Africa Air Travel Market to Ghana

Nigeria has lost the West African air market to Ghana as today no Nigerian airline is operating to destinations such as Accra, Abidjan, Dakar, Freetown, Monrovia and the Gambia.
Industry operatives told THISDAY that the aforementioned routes used to be lucrative for Nigerian airlines, where they generate dollar revenue and were known as low hanging fruits.
Since international flights started on September 5, last year, no Nigerian airline has been operating to any of the aforementioned routes, which are currently dominated by Ghana-based African World Airlines (AWA), Asky, Air Senegal and others.
Along with the loss of these air travel market are also businesses that were dominated by Nigerians but today, with the influx of Chinese into retail trade in the West Coast and the entrance of South African investors, Nigeria has lost huge market in the sub-region. ....
