SNP MSP Ruth Maguire revealed yesterday that she has been diagnosed with stage three cervical cancer
NICOLA Sturgeon was among Scotland’s politicians to send warm wishes to SNP MSP Ruth Maguire who revealed yesterday that she has been diagnosed with stage three cervical cancer.
Writing on Twitter, the First Minister said: “Sending love and strength to Ruth Maguire and her family – everyone in the SNP is thinking of you.”
SNP MP Amy Callaghan also sent her heartfelt wishes after she experienced her own health battles.
Callaghan, the MP for East Dunbartonshire, was diagnosed with melanoma when she was 19 and has been cancer-free since 2014. ....

Government urged to review 'ridiculous' A listed status for Aberdeen blocks

SNP Aberdeen Central MSP Kevin Stewart, who also the housing minister, has urged Culture Secretary Fiona Hyslop to think about the residents who have had this imposed upon them.
In a letter he wrote: “Historic Environment Scotland appear to have ignored the fact that people live in these blocks and that the implications of A listed status will be severe in terms of restrictions on remedial and repair work.
“Beyond that, this decision will put at risk future energy efficiency
measures and district heating installations to the blocks.
“I recognise that Historic Environment Scotland are an independent body from the Scottish Government and so I know that your powers are limited in this regard, but I urge you to look into this matter and consider the impact this ridiculous decision will have upon people in Aberdeen who live in the buildings affected.” ....

Tributes from the world of Scottish entertainment have been paid to River City star Andy Gray, who has died at the age of 61.
The Perth-based actor appeared as Pete Galloway in the soap between 2017 and 2018, and was also a familiar face from shows such as Rab C Nesbitt and City Lights.
However, he was perhaps best known and loved for his work in pantomimes across the country.
Despite being most associated with the annual show at the King’s Theatre in Edinburgh, Gray also made appearances at other venues including His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen. ....

Choreographed drone display lights up Scottish skies to ring in the new year

As part of the Scottish celebration of Hogmanay, the Scots word for the last day of the year, entertainment company Underbelly has shared its spectacular drone show online.
The three-part short film called Fare Well, produced by Underbelly and Edinburgh Hogmanay 2020, reflects on the past year using a swarm of drones to create colourful images in the skies above famous Scottish landscapes including the Highlands, the National Monument of Scotland, and Edinburgh Castle.
The film s visuals are accompanied by the words of Scottish Makar (Scotland s poet laureate) Jackie Kay, and read by Scottish performers including David Tennant of Doctor Who and Broadchurch fame, and music by Celtic-electronic band NiteWorks. ....
