Pass the Mic creator/producer Suzanne Peck, who is also a Santa Barbara County commissioner, developed the educational video in partnership with her co-executive producer Mary Ziegler, Santa Barbara High School math teacher and GSA teacher advisor, with the intent to support school districts and other educational entities as they address the importance of healthy and relevant sexual education for today’s youth.
Pass the Mic participants had the following comments:
“You’re going through high school and it’s hard, it’s so awkward. You’re gonna be OK, you’re gonna make it. A lot of people are gonna change, whether it’s their gender, sexuality, hair, bodies, like everyone is going through a thing, and the most powerful thing you can do is just stick with it. DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION KICKS OFF TODAY

California Democrats will meet virtually this year for their four-day annual convention, which starts today and continues into Sunday.
Saturday will feature remarks from nearly every top California Democrat, including Attorney General Rob Bonta, Secretary of State Shirley Weber, Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis, Controller Betty Yee, Treasurer Fiona Ma, and Gov. Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom.
We ll also get to hear from top Californians in Washington, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Alex Padilla, and retired Sen. Barbara Boxer. Sen. Dianne Feinstein is not scheduled to speak. ....

Small crowd protests at school board meeting


The District 51 Board of Education held its first in-person meeting since October on Tuesday night, but not everyone there wanted to hear what was on the agenda.
About two dozen people stood outside of R-5 High School, 455 N. 22nd St., to protest a swath of issues that they called indoctrination. Some waved American flags, while others like Tom Keenan held signs decrying certain slavery and sexual education programs.
“(Schools) are indoctrinating our kids, we’re not educating them anymore,” said Keenan, who has two grandchildren in elementary school. “They can be fed this stuff and not even know it.”
Keenan singled out California’s sexual education program as worrying. The curriculum, he and others said, teaches sex to elementary schoolchildren. Some called it “pornography” and said it was coming for Colorado schools and Keenan said they were there to prevent it from happening. ....
