Expanding Soybean Options in Northern Pennsylvania

Now is the Time to Consider the Potential of Non-GMO Soybeans in Northern Pennsylvania.
Anna Busch, Union County agronomy educator, and Dave Hartman, Lycoming County livestock educator, are looking at the yield and potential market premium for non-GMO soybeans in north-central Pennsylvania.
In 2020 they grew and evaluated sulfonylurea-tolerant soybeans. STS is a non-GMO genetic trait. STS soybeans can be safely sprayed with higher rates of sulfonylurea herbicides such as Synchrony.
Soybean producers in northern Pennsylvania often struggle to find marketing opportunities because there aren’t many local grain buyers. STS varieties allow producers to grow soybeans for a niche market and price premium while providing additional herbicide options for the control of difficult weeds, such as burcucumber.

Forensic laboratory reveals report based on analysis of two dead girls.
The water given to the three Unnao girls, which led to the death of two of them, had been mixed with Sulfosulfuron, a herbicide, police said on Thursday.
The report of the chemical analysis of the viscera of the two girls found dead on February 17 night, released by the Forensic Science laboratory (FSL), Lucknow, has revealed the presence of Sulfosulfuron in their vital organs.
Unnao Superintendent of Police (SP) Anand Kulkarni said the accused used Sulfosulfuron, which is an odourless herbicide, to poison the water.

How much time do you spend thinking about your hormones? For most of us, conversations about hormones are limited to a few topics: teenagers, monthly cycles or menopause. But hormones are crucial for our bodies to operate optimally—for both genders and throughout our lives. Unfortunately, many common chemicals are scientifically proven to alter the way our brains produce and work with hormones. Hormone-disrupting chemicals can alter the actions of hormones by mimicking or blocking natural hormones, or by boosting hormone production. Disruptions to our bodies’ natural hormone balance affects us in multiple ways: Hormones affect our ability to reproduce, to regulate sugars, to concentrate and to maintain a healthy immune system.

Vietnam veterans with parkinsonism, bladder cancer and hypothyroidism may file claims
With the recent passage of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021, three new conditions have been added to the Agent Orange Presumptive List.
Parkinsonism, bladder cancer and hypothyroidism are now listed as being associated with exposure to certain herbicide agents.
Agent Orange is an herbicide that was used by the United States to kill vegetation in the Republic of Vietnam during the war. The herbicide was named for the distinctive orange band painted on the storage barrels.
Veterans who served in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28, 1961, and May 7, 1975, and who have a current diagnosed condition that is on the VA Agent Orange Presumptive List have a lower burden of proof regarding exposure to Agent Orange in order to receive benefits.
