By State Representative Danny Garrett, Commentary MONTGOMERY The Legislature’s primary focus in Week 2 was to pass the “Big Three”: three priority bills introduced last week that Governor Kay Ivey mentioned in her “State of the State” address. All three passed both chambers and were signed into law by the Governor on Friday. The first bill, HB170 was legislation I sponsored to exempt all federal CARES Act dollars and other COVID relief received by individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations in 2020 or 2021 from state tax liability. The bill also decreases certain taxes for Alabama-based businesses and includes revisions to the Alabama Tax Code that will remove competitive barriers for businesses that are considering locating in Alabama. ....

(WAFF) - The permanent headquarters of U.S. Space Command will be located at Huntsvilleâs Redstone Arsenal. According to a statement from the Secretary of the Air Force, Huntsville was confirmed as the preferred location for the U.S. Space Command Headquarters. The Department of the Air Force conducted both virtual and on-site visits to assess which of six candidate locations would be best suited to host the U.S. Space Command Headquarters. The decision was based on factors related to mission, infrastructure capacity, community support and costs to the Department of Defense. ....
Alabama News Updated: Huntsville will now be the new permanent home of the U.S. Space Command Headquarters. Governor Ivey and several officials made the announcement Wednesday afternoon. “I couldn’t be more pleased to learn that Alabama will be the new home to the United States Space Command!,” said Governor Ivey. Governor Ivey said she was informed of the decision this morning. Huntsville’s Redstone Region is set to house the headquarters. “Our state has long provided exceptional support for our military and their families as well as a rich and storied history when it comes to space exploration. This combination only enhances the outstanding relationships we have with the 65 diverse federal agencies on Redstone Arsenal, not to mention the growing presence of the FBI and other federal installations. The bottom line is simple, the Redstone Region is the most natural choice to become home to such an important mission for our country.” ....
