D.A.: Trial date expected for murder suspect of Onslow County toddler

ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A trial date has been set for the man accused of killing a 3-year-old Onslow County toddler.
Judge Charles Henry granted District Attorney Ernie Lee’s request for a November 8th trial date for Earl Kimrey.
Kimrey is accused of killing 3-year-old Mariah Woods in 2017.
Kimrey’s defense attorney, Wally Paramore, requested a 2022 trial date.
Paramore raised concerns about witnesses being available close to the holidays. ....

Jacksonville man runs out of courtroom after found guilty in revenge porn case


A verdict on Friday led to a Jacksonville man running out of the courtroom after he was found guilty for posting revenge pornography to social media and sending the pictures and videos to his ex-girlfriend s employer in 2018. 
Onslow County District Attorney Ernie Lee announced Derrick Brandon Stokes, 34, was found guilty of three counts of disclosure of private images, three counts of disseminating obscenity, and three counts of having attained the status of a habitual felon. The jury took less than half an hour to find Stokes guilty, who was waiting on the main floor of the courtroom for the announcement.  ....

Onslow Sheriff under investigation for single-car wreck, JPD says


More details were released regarding an early February incident involving Onslow County Sheriff Hans Miller. As those details came in, Jacksonville Police Chief Mike Yaniero said his department has initiated an investigation into the incident. 
Onslow County District Attorney Ernie Lee made the announcement Tuesday afternoon after Chief Yaniero reached out on Monday regarding the accident Sheriff Miller was believed to be in. Miller and Onslow County Manager Sharon Russell confirmed the incident, which took place on Feb. 9. 
Yaniero informed Lee JPD would investigate the incident and send the results of the investigation to him. However, due to the working relationship between Lee and Miller, the DA will instead send the findings to District Attorney Billy West of Cumberland County.  ....

Mariah Woods trial set for Feb, postponed to later date


What was scheduled to take place in February 2021 has now been forced into limbo as the Mariah Woods homicide trial was postponed. 
Onslow County District Attorney Ernie Lee said in an email to The Daily News that due to COVID-19 issues, the trial is being rescheduled.
The Daily News has reached out to Lee along with Onslow County Superior Court Judge Charles Henry for clarification as to when the trial could be rescheduled. Originally, the trial was scheduled for Feb. 22, The Daily News previously reported. 
Judge Henry s office explained there is not a set date and they are waiting for things to clear up. They are hoping to start jury trials back up on March 1.  ....
