10-year-old boy in Indiana fatally struck by car during father-son fishing trip

Kayden Bibb and his father Brent were doing the one thing they love to do Wednesday evening: fishing.They were fishing out in Scottsburg, Indiana. A few fish and a couple of laughs later, it was time to go home, but as Kayden attempted to cross the street to go to his father, the unthinkable happened. I was just in shock, said Brent Bibb. I couldn t believe my little boy was just laying there, bleeding out. Multiple times we ve been fishing here, and nothing like that ever happened. I never thought it would happen. Kayden was struck by a vehicle, making him airborne before landing in the water. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. The person behind the wheel was a 17-year-old.Scott County Sheriff Jerry Goodin calls it the worst-case scenario for a parent. AUSTIN, Ind. At the height of rural America’s worst drug-fueled HIV outbreak, Jerrica Hall stole and traded sex to feed her unrelenting craving for opioid pills she crushed and injected an addiction that gripped many in this town of 4,100.
In 2015, she walked into an Austin trap house where she used drugs. Inside, a group of friends had their heads down, crying. Everyone had been diagnosed that day with HIV.
She’d shared a used needle once, too, and soon caught the quickly spreading virus. With a 3-month-old child and a dearth of local addiction support, hopelessness led soon to an overdose. ....

1 Person Killed, 6 Injured in Alleged Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Incident: Sheriff
One person died and six were injured, including three children, in what appears to be a carbon monoxide poisoning incident in Indiana, officials said.
Deputies with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Lexington home on Wednesday, according to the sheriff’s office in a statement. Officials then learned that a gas-powered generator was being operated inside the home without proper ventilation.
Generator manufacturers such as Generac say that gas-powered portable generators should not be operated inside an enclosed space, as the exhaust contains carbon monoxide.
The Scott County Coroner’s Office pronounced Terri Hart, 51, dead, according to the sheriff’s office. ....

LEXINGTON, Ind. (AP) A woman died and six other people, including three children, received medical treatment after apparently being sickened by carbon monoxide fumes from a gasoline-powered generator set up inside a southern Indiana home, police said.
Scott County deputies who were called early Wednesday to the home found that the generator was being used indoors, police said.
Terri L. Hart, 51, was found dead inside the home, while a 23-year-old and three children ages 6, 4 and three months, were taken to hospitals for treatment, police said. Two other people were treated at the scene. ....
