NC lawmakers denounce violent clashes in Washington

The U.S. Capitol was locked down Wednesday with lawmakers inside as supporters of President Donald Trump overwhelmed Capitol Police and made their way inside the chambers of the House of Representatives and the Senate. The lockdown lasted nearly four hours.
As a result, Congress was forced to
abruptly halt deliberations Wednesday over Republican challenges to the results of the 2020 presidential election.
Sen. Thom Tillis, R-NC, was not among the Republicans objecting to the Electoral College certification showing Democratic presidential challenger Joe Biden the winner. Tillis said the violence was a national disgrace.
I proudly back the blue and support law and order, which is why I condemned the violence that took place in cities across the nation this summer, Tillis said on social media. It s a national disgrace to have a mob attacking Capitol Police and engaging in anarchy. This is not what America stands for. ....

3rd Congressional District GOP calls for objection to Electoral College votes

The Executive Committee of the Third Congressional District Republican Party has overwhelmingly adopted a resolution calling upon North Carolina members of Congress to object to the votes of presidential electors from states tainted by election fraud when Congress meets January 6 to count the electoral votes from the Electoral College. Letters have been sent to the NC delegation conveying this message.
If one Congressman and one Senator object during the consideration of the electoral votes, the Constitution requires debate by each house, with a mandatory two hours of debate time per objection. This carries the potential to
run out the clock and force the election into the House and Senate. The House would elect the president and the Senate would elect the Vice President. The House votes as one vote per state delegation rather than one vote per member, and Republicans hold a majority of state delegations. ....
