A display of 23 flags belonging to Linda and Gene Tacey hung on the outside of the south wall of the big barn at the Buffalo Bill Historical Park for Flag Day Monday, giving a glimpse of the history that led to the independence of the United States.
The flags of Spain, France and England were on display, dating back to the1400s and earlier, representing the European explorers who first came to North America.
Flags from the Continental Army, the Rhode Island Regiment, George Washington’s Liberty Tree, and the Grand Union are in the collection. The Grand Union flag preceded the flag with a circle of 13 stars, known as the Betsy Ross flag. After that, there were flags on display with 15, 27, 33, 34, 35, 45 and 48 stars. ....
