BLACKSBURG, Va. – Florida State (5-5, 3-4 ACC) scored all six runs over the last four innings to top No. 18 Virginia Tech, 6-4, at English Field Friday afternoon. Pinch-hitter Logan Lacey hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the Noles’ three-run eighth inning. The Hokies (8-4, 4-3) led 3-0 through five innings against starting pitcher Parker Messick. Messick struck out seven batters and really settled down after a shaky first inning that included Gavin Cross’ solo home run. The Noles chipped away late in the game, scoring in the sixth inning on Robby Martin’s RBI single. Reese Albert led off the seventh inning with a solo home run, his second of the year, to cut the deficit to 3-2. ....
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Florida State Track and Field team completed day one of the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The Seminoles recorded three lifetime bests, four season bests, two heat winners, two new school records and the men earned 17 big points putting them in 3 rd place heading into the final day. “The men had a fantastic day one at indoor nationals,” said Head Coach Bob Braman. “The men are well positioned for a Top 5 finish tomorrow. That would be a really great result for this team considering we’re missing our Ace, Kasaun James, due to injury. I’m really proud of these guys. Out of 7 guys, only Trey has competed at Indoor Nationals before. That’s impressive.” ....
Arizona 2, Florida State 4 Kathryn Sandercock started and pitched her third complete game of the season for the Noles in the circle as she allowed seven hits and two runs with four strikeouts. Florida State came out of the gates swinging, scoring three runs in the first inning. Elizabeth Mason led off for the Noles with a double down the right-field line. She scored on the next at-bat as Devyn Flaherty blasted a single up the middle. Sydney Sherrill then walked bringing up freshman Kalei Harding. She hit her fifth double of the season to left-center scoring Flaherty and Sherrill giving the Noles an early 3-0 advantage. ....
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The second-ranked Florida State beach volleyball team (10-0) heads to Gulf Shores, Ala. this weekend to compete in the March to May event hosted by UAB. The Seminoles will play three matches against three ranked opponents, all on Saturday, March 13. FSU is a combined 25-1 against their opponents this weekend and enters the March to May event ranked No. 2 for the second straight week. This is the 10th time FSU has been ranked No. 2 in the AVCA rankings. The Seminoles have been ranked in the top-5 in 46 of the 52 AVCA top-20 rankings since beach volleyball became an NCAA sport in 2016. Florida State has been in the top-7 in all 52 polls. Florida State opens the weekend at 9 am EST against No. 10 TCU. Florida State is 8-0 all-time against TCU and 3-0 against the Horned Frogs at a neutral site.
