DUBLIN, Ga. (WALB) - The Carl Vinson VA Medical Center is collaborating with the Georgia Veterans Education Career Transition Resource (VECTR) Center in Warner Robins to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine to veterans 65 and older who are currently enrolled at the Dublin VAMC.
“Making the COVID-19 vaccine available to as many veterans as possible is one of our highest priorities as we continue to fight this pandemic,” Carl Vinson VA Medical Center Director David Whitmer said. “We are currently prioritizing veterans 65 and older since they are the most at-risk demographic and we become more effective by expanding vaccination administration to areas with high veteran populations.” ....

DUBLIN, Ga. More than 2,000 veterans are homeless across central and south Georgia. That is according to Joe Grant, who is the Homeless Veteran Program Coordinator at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin. Now, the VA is teaming up with the city and other organizations to provide housing for homeless and low-income veterans.

DUBLIN, Ga. (WALB) - The Carl Vinson VA Medical Center (VAMC) announced that Freedom’s Path at Dublin has been awarded a 10-year, $625,000 per year housing tax credit by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.
Two existing buildings on the main campus will be renovated to include 22 studio, 22 one-bedroom, plus an additional new construction for six two-bedroom apartments to serve homeless, near homeless and disabled veterans and their families. ....

DUBLIN, Ga. Veterans who call the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center home are continuing to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
The Medical Center received its first shipment of the Moderna vaccine last week, and now the medical center director says the rollout is going well.
Lester Porter was the first veteran at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center to get vaccinated.

DUBLIN, Ga. A veteran at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin received a COVID-19 vaccine on Christmas day.
96-year-old World War II veteran, former local doctor and former Mayor of Dublin Lester Porter got the first vaccine at the center, just two days shy of his 97th birthday, according to a release from the center.
Porter is a former soldier with the Army’s 12th Armored Division and was on the front line of WWII in Germany. Now, he s on the frontline of a new battle COVID-19. ....
