The art installation is an attempt to woo customers back to Westfield’s shops and restaurants.
“The ultimate goal of the Impulse seesaw installation is to draw people into town during a traditionally slow time of year while providing families from around the region a fun winter activity,” Bob Zuckerman, Executive Director of Downtown Westfield Corporation, said in a press release. “While residents and visitors are in town riding the seesaws, we want them to play, shop, and dine and enjoy the amazing offerings of our local businesses.” ....

Free weekend parking in Montreal extended to end of February

MONTREAL
The City of Montreal announced Thursday that to support the revival of its downtown core that has been decimated during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is extending the free on-street paid parking in the Ville-Marie borough on Friday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and during weekends, until Feb. 28.
In addition, the Montreal en Lumiere Festival will be extended this year until March 28, as will the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership facilities.
The City of Montreal is supporting the extensions with an extra $282,000, in addition to the $600,000 in funding granted for the regular Lumiere Festival.
Montreal Mayor Valerie Plante pointed out that even if the pandemic has forced the cancellation of several events and festivals for a year, it is important to support the cultural organizations behind these activities that give Montreal its reputation. ....

In the heart of downtown Montreal, residents of a city battered by months of dealing with the coronavirus pandemic can now indulge in a little seasonal “light therapy”.
A special sound and light display has been set up to try to bring some comfort to Montreal.
On Festival Square, Montrealers can marvel at imposing luminous zoetropes, fast-revolving wheels that project illustrations from twelve books written from Quebec in a way that makes the images seem like animation. ....
