SAN CARLOS, CA Over half of Caltrain s revenue next fiscal year is projected to come from funds collected via Measure RR, highlighting how crucial the ballot measure s passage was toward the future of the struggling transit system that was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Of Caltrain s $157 million in projected revenue for the 2022 fiscal year, $82 million will come from Measure RR, a 1/8-cent sales tax increase passed last year by voters in Santa Clara, San Mateo and San Francisco counties and will raise around $108 million annually for 30 years. ....

As part of its contract extension, TransitAmerica Services will also support construction of Caltrain’s Peninsula Corridor Electrification Project, which includes the installation of more than 3,000 concrete foundations.
The Caltrain Board of Directors has extended through June 30, 2027, its operating agreement with TransitAmerica Services, Inc. (TASI).
TASI, a subsidiary of Herzog Transit Services, Inc., handles administration/safety; operations and dispatch; maintenance of equipment, track, communications and signals, and stations; and construction support work. It has also supported capital improvement projects, such as Positive Train Control (PTC) and bridge replacement. ....

At its monthly meeting [yesterday], the Caltrain Board of Directors approved a contract extension to the Caltrain Operating Agreement with TransitAmerica Services, Inc. (TASI) to continue providing commuter rail service for the agency through June 30, 2027.
The current term of the agreement is set to expire on June 30, 2022. The new contract extension allows TASI to support the construction of the Peninsula Corridor Electrification Project (PCEP) and the subsequent transition into operation and maintenance in an electrified environment. The Caltrain Board originally awarded TASI its contract in September 2011 with a five-year base agreement and an option for five one-year extensions. Those extensions were executed in February 2017. ....

It was the end of the line for rail service in Atherton last weekend. The final train stopped in town on the evening of Sunday, Dec. 13. Caltrain opted earlier this month to discontinue service in town in favor of nearby Menlo Park and Redwood City stations, which have much higher ridership and where denser developments are projected to generate higher levels of future demand for rail service.
The Atherton City Council voted to shut down the historic station at the end of October because of low ridership over the years and a desire to safeguard the town from future legislation similar to the recent Senate Bill 50, which would have required cities to allow high-density housing development near public transit. ....
