Presidential pet history is too imprecise for an exact count, but it appears that only about a dozen cats have padded through the White House, compared with more than 100 dogs. First dogs, in fact, date to George Washington’s presidency, but cats may not have appeared until Abraham Lincoln’s, and their lives have been far more mysterious.
