Olympics: Japanese men's badminton singles top seed Momota knocked out
Men's badminton singles top seed and world No. 1 Kento Momota was knocked out of the Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday night, meaning another of Japan's biggest stars and gold medal hopes has fallen to the wayside at these games.
Momota was ousted by unseeded South Korean Heo Kwang Hee in straight games (21-15, 21-19), his tournament ending with him ranked second in his group and only the top-ranked player advancing to the round of 16 at Musashino Forest Sport Plaza.
Japan's Kento Momota plays during his badminton singles match against South Korea's Heo Kwang Hee at the Tokyo Olympics on July 28, 2021, at Musashino Forest Sport Plaza. (Kyodo)

Team GB 2021: Meet the British athletes competing in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

Who are Team GB's athletes to watch
Team GB is represented by its largest ever delegation for an Olympic Games on foreign soil, with 376 athletes and a further 22 reserve athletes competing across 26 sports at the Tokyo 2020 Games. It is second only to the 541 athletes selected for the London Olympics in 2012.
For the first time in its 125-year history, Team GB has also taken more women than men to a summer Olympic Games.
Of the 376 athletes selected, Team GB took 201 female (53.5%) and 175 male athletes (46.5%) to Tokyo thanks to impressive qualification performances from British female athletes across sports and an increased number of female events at the Games.

TOKYO - Female athletes have fought long and hard for the right to choose what they wear when they compete at the Olympics, and at the Tokyo Games, more and more athletes and fans are speaking out and taking action.
Of the more than 30 women who played badminton on Wednesday, including India's PV Sindhu and Taiwan's Tai Tzu Ying, about two-thirds wore shorts, while others were clad in skorts, dresses and skirts, and one wore a hijab.
"I'm lucky that we can wear whatever we want," said Sindhu, the Rio Olympics women's singles silver medalist who wore one of her blue dresses when she defeated Hong Kong's Cheung Ngan Yi 21-9, 21-16.
