CRANBURY – After a long wait, the borough is getting its own library.
The Cranbury Public Library Foundation hosted an official groundbreaking ceremony last week at 30 Park Place West, where the new library will be situated just off Main Street.
At just under 12,000 square feet, the library will have room for adult, teen and children’s materials as well as a large program room and community meeting areas. Also included is an archive to hold the Cranbury Historical and Preservation Society’s files and materials.
Construction is scheduled to begin this spring.
“This is the culmination of many years of strategic planning from dedicated board members in conjunction with our community, said Kirstie Venanzi, the library’s board of trustees president. “The board has been actively working on this project for over ten years and we are so excited to begin construction.”

NORWALK For the second year in a row, Norwalk Public Schools was named one of the top districts in the country for music education. However, budget constraints have made the future of its music program uncertain.
The award was granted by the the NAMM Foundation, a nonprofit that advances participation in music by supporting scientific research, philanthropic giving and public service programs, according to a schools statement.
NORWALK, Conn. Barbara Meyer-Mitchell has resigned from the Board of Education, effective Friday.
Meyer-Mitchell was first elected in 2017 and is leaving eight months ahead of the end of her term. The Democrat has said in an op-edthat she is leaving to focus on her two children after helping Norwalk Public Schools make “significant progress” during her 3+ years on the Board.
“The cost of service is high, with many evenings spent away from family. While I have been operating as if I have 11,683 children, I need to focus on the two that are mine for a bit,” Meyer-Mitchell wrote.
Board of Education Chairman Colin Hosten noted the resignation at Thursday’s Finance Committee meeting, saying that Meyer-Mitchell had examined the priorities in her life and decided to move on.
